There are over one billion blogs in existence worldwide. It includes microbloggings such as Twitter.
In our grandparents’ generation, public sphere was only limited because it needed to be face to face; however, the style of public sphere was changed by the
internet and blogging is one of the most popular public spheres today.
The blog is overlapped between public and private (Weber 2007). Human society was changed a lot by the internet and especially blogging
changed the human’s communication style. People could blog about anything; therefore it is private and there is no responsibility. However, a blog could be published to public society and
everyone could read it.
There are a lot of elderly people in a local cafe in an afternoon.
People communicate with each other and get a lot of local information including gossips from the local cafe. That information might not be accurate but it is
only shared with a limited amount of people. However, many young people are using blogs
and that is the public sphere for them today; therefore inaccurate information
could be published for everyone worldwide.
What is the difference between a local cafe and blog?
The difference is only the audience of the population. But the difference has a great effect.
For example, first name last name, a Japanese celebrity wrote her blog about criticism for a criminal with the criminal’s photo in July 2012. However, the photo was
not the criminal’s photo, it was a completely different person. Many people
criticise the blog.
The celebrity wrote the information on the blog and this caused a big
problem; however, if she talked about the same topic only with friends or
workmates, it would not have been a big problem.
Blogsphere is one of most popular public spheres today; however,
there are still a lot of problems.

I really enjoyed this blog. I thought it was interesting and quirky with stimulating information. It was factual and had good references although I think could be improved if you denoted a sense of your perception and interpretation on the matter. Your argument would’ve been stronger if you somehow related it back to you and where you stand in this global media sphere. Overall, a good read and I love the images you included!
ReplyDeleteHi Kanako, I enjoyed reading your entry. The writing style is simple and clear. With support of your reference, you've drawn a fairy good point on public sphere in conjunction with the use of blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I liked that you have given examples of how celebrity uses their influences to the general public and send out information that is not necessary right and using right picture to emphasize the argument you draw in your entry.
Hi, Kanako, you use very simple words and simple example to explain your opinion about effect of new technology in globalization. It is very interesting that you use local cafe to represent local cultural or a kind of traditional communicate medium form. And then use blog as contrast example is a very smart idea. Your post simply but clearly shows the relationship between local cultural and global cultural by different media form. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this blog, you have explained it simply and helped with my understanding of the difference between a public sphere and a blogosphere. I love the examples you have used. I feel that you could have used some more academic references to explain some of the points you have, just to show you did your research, but overall I enjoyed reading this blog.
ReplyDeleteA great blog, it was simple and concise! you raised a good point when you mention "what is the difference between a local cafe and blog?"
ReplyDeleteI also agreed with your answer that the benefit of a blog is that it can reach a far greater and more diverse audience.
The revelation of being able to blog to people all around the world is such an immensely powerful and insightful tool that has changed the world. Idea and concepts become shared by the touch of a button.
